aparto crowns winner of Bristol student artwork competition

At aparto, we're all about building community and celebrating the cultural vibe of each city we’re in. With our newest residence, aparto Bristol Brigg Point, set to open in September 2025, we’re excited to welcome students to a space that highlights Bristol's unique spirit and creativity.
To mark this launch, we teamed up with Bristol students for the aparto Bristol Brigg Point Student Artwork Competition. This competition gave budding student artists an exciting chance to showcase their creativity by designing artwork that captures the essence of student life in Bristol. Alongside artistic recognition, the competition included a £2,000 university bursary – an incredible way to support students financially and bring the energy of the city to life.
The competition invited students from Bristol to create designs for the hoarding surrounding the Bristol Brigg Point site while development is underway, with judges looking for entries that captured the essence of the student community, the city's dynamic arts scene, and its storied history. The competition invited a wide range of styles and perspectives, with an esteemed panel – including Hannah W from HYBR | Nix Northwest | Zulum Elumogo and others – assessing each entry for creativity, originality, and cultural impact.
The winning entry came from third-year economics student Ethan Young, who took home the £2,000 prize along with universal acclaim from the judges. His winning artwork featured a bold, abstract interpretation of Bristol's iconic Clifton Suspension Bridge, utilising vibrant, geometric shapes and colours that reflect the city's dynamic arts scene. The overall impact is energetic and visually engaging, with a contemporary take on Bristol's cultural heritage.
According to the artist, the bright, diverse colour palette is designed to evoke community spirit and creativity, while the heart and abstract elements hint at the values of connection and unity.
Competition winner and University of Bristol student Ethan Young said:
“It feels quite surreal to know that my artwork will be displayed for so many to see, and I feel very honoured to be able to contribute to the incredible Bristol art scene. I’ve always enjoyed expressing myself creatively and it’s a massive privilege to be recognised for something I am so passionate about.”
