Safety & wellbeing at aparto

At aparto the wellbeing of our residents is of the utmost importance to our team. We strive to create positive, safe, friendly environments and continue to enhance our strong sense of community.

Your surroundings

Moving to a new city can be an exciting yet daunting experience. Here are some of our recommendations on how to stay safe in and around the residences.
  • Your new fellow residents and friends are the first point of keeping safe. Be Kind to each other, look out for each other and check in with each other.
  • Make sure to respect each other’s space if they have booked a social area or need some quiet time
  • Your key will be programmed to allow you into some communal areas of the building and your specific living area. Please keep your key fob or card safe and never lend your keys to anyone.
  • Our Buildings are all covered by CCTV Cameras in external and communal areas. If you notice any suspicious activity please inform a member of our team.
  • Notify reception of any issues or if you are concerned for a resident’s wellbeing
  • If you discover someone who has had a serious accident, call 999 and ask for an Ambulance straight away, also inform the reception or security team.
  • Around two thirds of all crime happen at night, and whilst you should always be vigilant against crime, it is sensible to plan your trip home in advance if you are travelling home late at night. Never get in an unlicensed taxi and always carry the number of a reputable licenced taxi company.

Community

aparto is a student’s home-away-from-home whilst they are studying. It is a place where they will be supported, encouraged and welcomed. University life will be like nothing you’ve ever experienced before, and this will probably be the first time you’ve lived away from home. You will find lifelong friends and have experiences that will shape the rest of your life. From the minute you arrive, aparto will be a resource, a base, a home, and a friend. Living at aparto enables people to discover their possibilities and create close communities.
In line with aparto’s brand values – service, belonging and community, we create a memorable experience for residents through an experienced and lively residence team combined with an extensive events and wellbeing programme to form a strong sense of community.

Kooth & Mental Health Support

The Kooth platform provides free, safe and anonymous access to drop-in chats, counselling, content and self-help tools, 365 days a year. It includes peer-to-peer support, mood journey mapping, research and insights, and self-care help and advice. In addition, it’s the only digital mental health provider to hold UK-wide accreditation from the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP).
aparto selected Kooth as it delivers an anonymous, integrated and holistic approach to accessing multiple pathways to care with immediate access to help and advice. In addition, Kooth has also focused on supporting young adults during the C-19 pandemic with wider mental health and wellbeing services under acute pressure.
aparto residents will be able to access the Kooth platform via a bespoke web link. More information can be found in your residence facebook group, residence digital handbook and or from our friendly team in reception.
